Home of Wall Street, the New York Stock Exchange, and towering skyscrapers, the financial district is high powered. Located near the East and Hudson rivers, you can easily go for a scenic walk along the waterfront. Even better, you can find surprisingly affordable high-rise apartments for rent in the Financial District. There are some really unique dining options here, including Ramen Co — a restaurant from Keizo Shimamoto, creator of the ramen burger.
You know that gorgeously dreadful New York habit of shortening the neighborhood names into unrecognizable monikers? Financial District didn’t escape this fate – it goes by FiDi now. Careful, even studio condos for rent in Financial District come at a higher cost, and yet it’s understandable because it’s all here. Stone Street is lined with restaurants and bars. The southern part of the neighborhood opens into New York Harbor, giving you the feeling of expanse and freedom rare for a densely populated city. A transportation hub and a major business center, FiDi also provides a number of entertainment opportunities, from unique, widely recognized architecture, to historic landmarks.
But what the place is best known for is being the financial core of New York – and the US, really. The stock exchanges, skyscrapers with multiple offices, headquarters of large corporations; truly, it’s a dream wonderland to build your career!
Want to know how big business in Financial District, New York is? You get the point across when you look at the giants like the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, the New York Board of Trade, the New York Stock Exchange, and NASDAQ (the two latter are the largest stock exchanges in the world). The notorious Wall Street is here, completing the big picture: FiDi is what makes New York the global leading financial center. No wonder every financier seeks a job in Financial District!
You’ll hardly find anyone below Bachelor’s degree in Financial District – it’s all about white-collar professionals and sharks of business here. Naturally, 20 to 40 is the prevalent age – ah, the young ambitions, the dreams of greatness! White population easily wins the ethnic race by sheer number, but just look at how strong is the Asian community of the neighborhood (probably the myth is true nonetheless). For a final touch, just as you would have imagined, a regular income in FiDi is three times the national average.
In Financial District you ought to enjoy the gorgeous architecture – several of the tallest buildings in the world will amaze you with their colossal size and ambitions: consider the leader, One World Trade Center, and then go for a stunning landscape trip – best views are from the New York Harbor. Just take a Staten Island Ferry and, while you’re there, take a closer look at the Statue of Liberty. For a change, visit several historic buildings, a couple of museums, and lie in wait at Bowling Green for a ticker tape parade.
Median 2-bedroom condo for rent in Financial District will be quite expensive – that’s the price you pay for living at the heart of it all, the center of Big Apple! The ever-changing demographic makeup of the neighborhood caused ¾ of the property to be rented, so you’ll have no trouble finding a place that suits all your tastes. If you found a job somewhere else, try skimming through available apartments for rent in Financial District closer to one of the subway lines.
Financial District is living nonstop, always buzzing and glistening like a diamond. FiDi, in contrast, is more relaxed – most employees leave work at 5, and the traffic slows down considerably. This is not to say the neighborhood lacks nightlife options or fine dining.
